M-MOMENTS: About

Milestones.

How Track and Field molded me

I spent more than 30 years of my life running. From the days I joined Track and Field in secondary school till today... I learned how those trainings on track had moulded me into what I am today.

I look back to those times fondly. Three times a week, more than two hours each time, and for more than three intensive years, my life was spent under the hot sun mainly at Hougang stadium, Yio Chu Kang stadium and Macritchie Reservoir. Those tough trainings had moulded me into a strong-willed person who will push to reach personal best in anything I do, think positively, be the positive icon that I want for others, and be objective driven.

Life under coach was tough and draggy. But years later, I felt proud about the pain and the gain. I learned to become my own coach - remind myself how I need to coach myself when I face problems in life; not to fall down but to look for solutions; the "you can do it" spirit; work on issues positively; see things in a different perspective; never give up trying; and encourage others to do the same too! I enjoy being the guiding icon sharing the same learning points.

Many years later, I tried to train the same way myself. To go beyond limits, I started to love climbing stairs, walk long journeys, cycle leisurely, run some marathons, try the Swissotel Vertical challenge, and was hoping to breakthrough my restrictions to be able to explore sacred places.

I am glad I had made it to a few places. These experience extended my patience and perspective in dealing with challenges. Indeed, solo travelling has its benefits, especially in realising life's values and perspectives.

Memories of how we overcome our problems and exceed our limits in our every day challenges are the best results we can never share in life. It is only after the years passed.... that you will be able to look back proudly and say to yourself: "I have no regrets".

In many situations in your life, no matter how difficult or challenging the situation may be, the only way to keep yourself going is to do what you can, do your best. This attitude itself is winning the battle. All other threatening issues don't really matter at all.
Life is not a shortcut. Every effort is an effort. No effort, no achievement. More effort, more achievement. Lazy effort, little or no achievement. Some effort, some achievement. Best personal effort, personal best achieved. I have never fail to convey this philosophy to my children. But I think i can never live to see the results.... the only result i know and see is of myself: I have done what I can, to the best of my ability.
